Natu Kodi Chicken Curry (Country Chicken Andhra Style)

A traditional Andhra-style spicy curry made with country chicken (natu kodi), slow-cooked with fresh spices for rich flavor and strong aroma.

    1 kg natu kodi (country chicken), cleaned

    3 onions (finely chopped)

    2 tomatoes (chopped)

    2 tbsp ginger garlic paste

    3 tbsp oil

    Curry leaves (1 sprig)

    1 tsp turmeric powder

    2 tbsp red chili powder

  9. 9

    2 tsp coriander powder

    1 tsp garam masala

    Salt (to taste)

    1 bay leaf

    1-inch cinnamon

    3 cloves

    2 cardamom

    2 tbsp coconut paste

    1 tbsp poppy seeds paste

    Heat oil in a pressure cooker or thick pan.

    Add whole spices and curry leaves.

    Add chopped onions and fry until golden brown.

    Add ginger garlic paste and sauté well.

    Add tomatoes and cook until soft.

    Add turmeric, chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.

    Add chicken pieces and mix well.

    Cook for 10–15 minutes on medium flame.

    Add coconut + poppy seed paste for richness.

    Add water as needed and pressure cook for 4–5 whistles (or cook covered for 45–60 mins until tender).

    Finish with garam masala and fresh coriander.

    Natu kodi takes longer to cook than broiler chicken.
